Photo Share: Mystery of the Acorn

Wildlife which eat acorns as an important part of their diets include birds, such as jays, pigeons, some ducks, and several species of woodpeckers. Small mammals that feed on acorns include mice, squirrels and several other rodents.

The acorn, or oak nut, is the seed of oak trees but are too heavy for wind dispersal, so they appreciate the help of small animals (and children with slingshots) to move them to a new territory beyond the mother tree.
