Can hummingbirds drink from the same feeder as an oriole?

Unknown Thursday, June 2, 2011
I have a lot of hummingbirds at my oriole feeder. The oriole feeder I use is saucer shaped with perches built for the orioles, but the hummers hover over the feeding port to drink.

As long as they can access the nectar and the nectar is a 1 part sugar to 4 parts water solution, both birds will be happy. A solution of 1:4 is close enough to imitate the natural flower nectar concentration of 20%.

But there is something about watching a hummingbird at rest that makes me feel good. That's why I have a Wild Birds Unlimited/Aspects High Perch window feeder next to the oriole feeder. They always check out the oriole feeder and then move over to their feeder to sit and lap up the nectar.

Thank you for the quick and informative reply. Sandy
