Close-up look at the hummingbirds in Michigan

I love the new hummingbird feeder you recommended. I saw a green and white hummingbird the first day. Do you know which hummingbird it was? How many hummingbirds are in our area? ~ Lansing, MI

Actually five species of hummingbirds have been sighted in Michigan. The most common hummingbird at Michigan feeders and gardens from April until October is the Ruby-throated Hummingbird. Ruby-throated get their name from the male's ruby-red feathers on the throat. The females, like you saw have an emerald green back and white bellies.

Although seen rarely, the other hummingbird species that have been sighted in Michigan according to Hummingbirds.net are the Rufous Hummingbird, the Broad-billed Hummingbird, the GreenViolet-ear Hummingbird and the White-eared Hummingbird.

The feeder I recommended for you is our best selling HummZinger®HighView™ feeder which allows hummingbirds to perch comfortably: http://bit.ly/JYUeWf. You can also enhance your garden.
